Cultural Diversity
Cultural diversity in the classroom is the awareness, acceptance, and the embracement of unique peoples and their different perspectives. In order to be a successful teacher it is imperative to be respectful of others and to have a willingness to learn about others and their culture. It is important to work with each person and to build individual relationships with students.

In my philosophy of cultural diversity in the classroom "Navigating and Educating
All Ranges of Diversity", I discuss my intention to be a multicultural teacher. This philosophy will help me emphasize the importance of diversity in my lessons. My philosophy will guide me to spread awareness and equality in my class that will help students become respectful citizens in society. |

The
artifact “Poverty 101: Through Mary O’ Donnell’s Eyes” is an artifact of a
character who is facing financial struggles. This person has such a low income
and several expenses that she has hardly any money to buy food. Poverty 101 was
held at Chandler Gilbert Community College, this was an organized simulation
for people to be given character parts and for them to role play their lives.
Every character had financial in capabilities to buy food themselves and tried
to pursue financial assistance, this simulation was designed to be realistic.
Although it was only role play, I found myself highly emotional and extremely
frustrated. This experience made me realize how cash assistance, going to the
community dining room, and simply applying at the D.E.S. can be very difficult.
I believe this simulation was essential for me to witness in order to grasp on
some level what my future students and their families could be going through.
With this event I found different resources that families could use, and I
think this will be great for my future so I can further assist my students and
their families.

I believe multicultural stories can enhance the curriculum by exploring different aspects of people. Recognizing different cultures expands the learners’ knowledge and appreciation of cultures. Researching these diverse cultures will bring awareness and insight to my students. This will hopefully establish an eagerness in my learners to continue learning about different regions of the world and their cultures. A way of showing respect for other cultures is a willingness to learn about their lifestyle, customs, and their beliefs.

Youth culture is an important aspect of development that determines the character that is formed over time. The behaviors can be heavily influenced at this stage by peers, teachers, parents, and media. Youth culture can affect a person's adult life mentally, emotionally, academicaally, and physically. This PowerPoint elaborates on the challenges and characteristics of youth culture with the different stages: childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. My topic was specifically childhood in youth culture.

This case study is an example of the youth today, and how technology is utilized by majority of the students. By having one outsider in the class who does not own a computer it brings negative attention to them. After the case study is my response as to what I believe the teacher should do in the situation. |
