Introduction to Education
Introduction to education is the first education course I have taken since at Chandler Gilbert, and I truly enjoyed it. It discusses the many techniques and classroom settings that help child learn. This has been an eye opener because I have realized what my philosophies of teaching are. Granted they will change over time and with self-reflection, but knowing what I want now gives me confidence. I also appreciated this course because I now know I am meant to be a teacher, and this class was a joy for me every class session. I believe it was the best preparation for my other teacher education courses since it made me extremely enthusiastic for the future.

My philosophy is truthfully several philosophies incorporated in my management. Writing this document helped me reflect with experiences I have had in service learning and how I reacted with the students. I can be progressive, but in some cases I am an essentialist. I love the classics with education and working my way up to the modern ways, but also social interaction in the classroom is a must in cognitive development for students. By having my students work in groups and always being engaged and asking questions, this would not only be a fun and safe environment to learn in, but a successful environment as well.

Me as a Teacher essay explains my reasoning and philosophies in the classroom. Of course this will be everchanging, however, there are aspects that will remain constant in my methods. I loved working on this essay and dreaming of a classroom of my own.

Service learning is what validated my desire to become a teacher. Working closely with my students and watching them grow over time with more knowledge was the greatest privilege. This document in particular states my time in my first service learning assignment for Spring semster 2012. This was a great experience and certainly had it's challenges, however, it truly helped me form my philosophies. I was able to execute my own theories of classroom management and course plans with my students working in groups. This was incredibly rewarding because there were a lot of aspects to teaching I did not take into consideration. Such as, teaching is a career that you take your work home with you. This not only means grading papers and creating learning plans, but mentally and emotionally as well. Even with service learning I was thinking of my day and the students at 8 pm when I was spending time with my family. Having a healthy balance is key to being a great teacher I learned. Service learning was the greatest training tool for me this semester because I took everything I was learning in EDU 221 into consideration, and acted on it.
